The aim of this research project was to make puppets out of four different materials, and these were crochet, needle felting, 3D printing and silicone. The reason I chose these materials for puppet making was to expand my creative skills and to explore the potential for making characters for stop-motion to have an alternative method to using Maya software for character development. Also, there can be a different quality, depth, and aesthetic with handmade characters than when using any animation software. As part of this research and learning process of making a puppet, and then merging that puppet into a 3D environment, using Maya was an essential factor, because Maya is an industry-standard software.
